AI RECOMMENDATION INDEX · AUSTRALIA

Psychologists in Australia: which firms does AI recommend?

Each month, we ask the four major AI platforms to recommend psychologists in 7 Australia cities. Pick a city to see which firms are named most, how often, and by which AI platforms. Rankings come from 60 distinct buyer prompts per city, run on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini.

How the rankings are built

Four AI platforms

We query ChatGPT (via OpenAI), Claude (via Anthropic), Perplexity, and Gemini (via Google) each month using web-search-enabled API access to match consumer behaviour. This approach matches how real buyers interact with AI when asking for recommendations.

Sixty queries per city

Every city run submits 15 distinct prompts combining buyer framings: 'who should I hire', 'best', 'most recommended', and specific variants. Each prompt runs on all four platforms, giving 60 total responses per city per month.

Two scores

Businesses rank by ARS (AI Recommendation Share: raw mention rate) and CIS (Composite Index Score: weighted by frequency, platform coverage, position, and citation quality). Scores from real responses, never modelled or inferred.

What the data shows

Patterns across 7 Australia psychologists cities.

51.2%
Average rank 1 ARS across Australia psychologists

On average, the top-recommended psychologist in each Australia city appears in 51% of AI responses. In tight markets this rises above 60%.

4 of 4
AI platforms queried per city

Each city runs on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini. Platforms disagree regularly: the rank 1 firm on ChatGPT is often not the rank 1 firm on Claude. This reflects different training data and retrieval systems across providers.

420
Queries run in Australia every month

420 distinct buyer-intent prompts across 7 cities produce 1680 total AI responses per month. This volume catches seasonal patterns and genuine month-on-month movement that one-off scans miss.

The Australia psychologists market shows a clear pattern: the firms AI recommends are not always the firms that rank highest on Google. This divergence is expected to accelerate as AI search handles a larger share of buyer discovery. Brands that win AI recommendation today own the next default in buyer shortlists.

Questions people ask AI about this

Rankings cover every Australia city where we have completed at least one monthly run. Live cities are listed above in the Live rankings section. Cities under Tracking next are scheduled for upcoming runs. Cities not listed at all have not yet been added to our tracking program. We prioritise cities by buyer query volume, so major metros usually go first, followed by regional centres based on demand.

By AI Recommendation Share (ARS): the percentage of the 60 monthly prompts per city in which the business appeared across all four AI platforms. The firm named most often wins rank 1. No manual curation, no editorial override, no commercial factor. If two firms tie on ARS, the Composite Index Score (CIS) breaks the tie, which adds platform coverage and position weighting. Example: in our Adelaide March 2026 run, when two firms shared the same ARS, CIS broke the tie based on which firm was recommended across more of the four platforms with stronger position weighting.

Because they are different systems trained on different data with different retrieval models. ChatGPT uses Bing and its own web retrieval. Claude uses its own web search integration. Gemini pulls from Google's search infrastructure. Perplexity runs its own index. Each platform weights sources differently. Example from our Australia psychologists data: the rank 1 firm on ChatGPT is often not the rank 1 firm on Claude, and overlap of the top 3 firms across all four platforms is typically partial rather than complete. This is a key finding from our research: tracking multiple platforms gives a truer picture of AI recommendation than any single platform alone.
