How rankings are produced

Four AI assistants

We query ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity with web search enabled. The same prompt set runs across all four.

Non-branded prompts

Brands are ranked by share of mentions on prompts that do not name any brand. This measures category authority, not branded recall.

Monthly canonical runs

New runs each month. Operators review and lock each run before publication. Previous runs are archived.

Ranked brands are listed via the sub-category pages. The path to ranking is recommendation infrastructure, not advertising.

How PRI for brands works

Frequently asked questions

What does PRI measure for Self-Tan?

PRI measures the share of AI brand recommendations within each sub-category of Self-Tan. Shares within a sub-category sum to 100 percent. There is no global category score because cross-sub-category comparison is not meaningful.

Which sub-categories are tracked?

The full list is in the grid above, grouped by country. New sub-categories are added as data accumulates. Sub-categories without live runs appear under Coming soon.

Which countries does Self-Tan cover?

Currently Australia, United Kingdom, United States. New countries are added as PRI runs complete. Each country has its own ranking, because AI recommendations vary by market.

How often are Self-Tan rankings updated?

Monthly. Each canonical run is operator-reviewed and locked before publication. Previous runs are archived and remain accessible.

How is the AI Recommendation share calculated?

Within each sub-category, we run a structured prompt set across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity with web search enabled. Each brand mention is counted. A brand's share is the percentage of total mentions that go to that brand.

Why is my brand not appearing in any Self-Tan sub-category?

Brands appear when AI mentions them in responses to non-branded category prompts. Brands not yet recognised as part of AI's spontaneous category answer will not appear. The fix is recommendation infrastructure: structured data, comparison content, evidence, and trust signals that AI can cite.

Can a brand pay to appear or rank higher in Self-Tan?

No. Rankings reflect AI assistant outputs only. Brands cannot pay AI See You to influence their ranking. The commercial product is helping brands improve their underlying recommendation infrastructure, not their ranking on this page.

Where does the methodology live?

At /methodology/. It covers prompt construction, run cadence, what counts as a mention, market scope, brand entity resolution, and the citation format.
